Portland, Oregon (part 2)
LOCKDOWN EDITION
Let me preface this by saying there is NO way a week trip could even begin to cover all the amazing food Portland has to offer. If anything, we BARELY scratched the surface. But, it would be a disservice to talk about this trip without giving credit to some of the best food items I’ve ordered all year. Like…damn guys. I typically try to limit my intake of meat and other animal products in my daily life, but vacations are my big cheats where I try to let go and enjoy the best of what each new place has to offer.
Best Sandwiches- Lardo
Good. Lord. This is first on the list because it is the only meal I looked at in SHOCK after I had the first bite. I basically shoved the sandwich in my partner’s face immediately to taste it, more to see if it was ACTUALLY as good as I thought than because I wanted to share. I had tried the Pho’Rench Dip which was (as you can probably guess), a non-traditional Asian fusion French Dip. Coupled with a side of insanely good Pho broth to dip in, the balance of tender beef, hoisin sauce, a spicy mayo, and the incredible bread was sensational. The Nashville Hot Fried Chicken sandwich was also beyond belief!
Best Curry– Hat Yai
This was an opportunity for me to indulge in my favorite meal approach, mostly full veggie….and taking two bites of whatever’s on Michael’s plate. We ordered the Hat Yai for Two which included some of their signature Malay-style fried chicken, sticky rice, curry, and roti. So I tried the chicken which I have to admit was great, but primarily focused on their roti and rice smothered in curry broth. I think the fact that we got this exact meal 3x that week says more than I could about how bomb it was. I had never had better roti (even reheated since we ate all these meals in the safety of our Airbnb) and the curry was definitely one of the best I’ve tried!
Honorable Mentions-
Man Vs. Fries Food Truck: Deep Fried Cookie Dough
We had them delivered and they were STILL hot and gooey when they arrived. Not heavy, overly sweet, or greasy in the slightest. 10/10 worth tracking this truck down for these alone!
Fire on the Mountain: Chicken Wings & Vegan Wings
I had the vegan wings and vegan boneless here and the sauces are absolutely incredible! Def would recommend trying the Medium Buffalo and Spicy Peanut sauces if you have the opportunity.
Blue Star Donuts: Donuts (duh)
I think we had donuts from here 3 days in a row! Two must haves- Vegan Orange Olive Oil and Chocolate Buttermilk. The only one that didn’t exceed expectations was the Maple Bacon. That one was surprisingly mundane in comparison to their other options.

Fire on the Mountain’s Spicy Peanut will have to be the next sauce I figure out, still stuck on Hat Yai’s curry!
