Book Club,  Thinking Out Loud

Introducing… Book Club!

So, books. I…cannot say enough words in this post to describe how big a part of my life reading is.  I read a bit of everything: fantasy, fiction, memoirs, personal development, finance, pop sociology, comedies, YA, thrillers, etc.

As a kid, I would bring books to read everywhere I went.  I’d have stacks in every room of the house, the car, and my backpack.  I use to spend class time making dozens of homemade bookmarks because I was usually reading 5-10 different ones at the same time.

Bookmark stash circa 2004? Bet this was not what you were picturing AT all.

Books were (and still are) a security blanket against the world.  Even though I’ve always been loud and bombastic, I think I’m more of an extroverted introvert (if such a thing exists).  I was never one of the cool kids and didn’t want to be; I’d bring a book to lunch most days in grade school and just read by myself.  I could tune out the rest of the room and just immerse myself in whatever story I was part of in that moment.

Adorable “Talk Wordy to Me” socks I was gifted this holiday season!

They were the one thing I had carte blanche on.  My parents would never say no to getting me a book.  Anyone I went to school with could tell you, I would absolutely CLEAN OUT the Scholastic Book Fairs that rolled through.  It got to the point that, when the books were delivered to our classroom (90s kids you know what I’m talkin bout), they would come in two big boxes.  One box would be for the entire class’s orders, and the other would be all mine.  (Wasn’t enough though, I would still max out my library card borrowing limit.)

Obviously, this behavior has not changed in the slightest.  First thing I set up when I moved to my new apartment?  Not my bed, my bookshelf.  I read 80 books and over 24,000 pages last year alone.  Which albeit is less impressive when you consider the fact that I barely left the house post March 2020, but still!  That was definitely a milestone in my “adult” life.  I tell you all this to be totally transparent on what a fucking nerd I am.  If I haven’t lost you already, gear up because my bizarre and eccentric behavior will be a recurring theme.

Since I am self-admittedly obsessed with reading and always on the lookout for people to talk to about what I’ve read, I’ve decided to host a “book of the month” club moving forward!  I am curious as to how this will work too, but here is what I’m thinking to start out-

At the start of the month, I will post some options on my Insta story- some books I have already read and loved, mixed in with books I’ve been dying to read.  That way you guys can decide what you’d be most interested in reading or hearing more about!  You can choose to read along that month, or just check out my reviews and highlights at the end 🙂
